Space. It’s the ‘Number 1′ problem we hear from clients today. It’s either too small or too big. A space that’s too small can bring a whole host of problems as clients require all the modern appliances. Short of knocking down walls, building an extension or moving the kitchen to another room, there wasn’t much what could be done. Until now: enter smart storage solutions.
With the current housing shortage, developers are now building more homes in smaller spaces to try and cope with the demand of the growing population. Subsequently rooms are getting smaller. Whilst some rooms can cope with a slightly smaller dimension, a smaller kitchen can be tricky. The kitchen is the ‘heart’ or the ‘engine room’ of the home, it’s the room where we start the day and the family gathers. We need to feel energised and ready for anything.
Thankfully manufacturers have started to take notice of this and now offer a multiple of smart storage solutions to this problem, space, or lack of it. With space at a shortage it needs to be utilised properly, a small space should never become ‘a waste of space’.
So let’s get started. Designers have become increasingly imaginative when it comes to kitchen cupboards. Doors on wall units no longer have to open the conventional vertical way, they can now be opened horizontally at a slight touch, ideal for narrow kitchens, you can see them in action here. On base units you can find an array of storage solutions, notably the rise in popularity of the ‘pull out‘ types from everything from base units to full height larders which surprisingly can take a lot of groceries.
Pantry style cabinets in tight corners are no longer an issue with the invention of the 360 degree carousel. There’s no longer a blind spot where you can’t reach, everything comes to you instead of the other way round. No more searching on your hands and knees! And with our ‘organised drawers’ everything will have a place and be easy to find. No more messy drawers.
Appliances have been getting the makeover treatment too. Not much space for a dishwasher? Well how about a Fisher & Paykel Dishdrawer?
They take up half the space, are economical and look good too. Gaggenau have the Table Ventilation system, which is a pop-up extractor for people that are tight on wall space, the advantage of this is when you’re not using it, it disappears flush onto your worktop at the touch of a button. Gaggenau also have the Induction Hob, the entire surface of the induction cooktop can be used as one large cooking zone, great for tight spaces (and large dinner parties!). Finally one of favourite space saving appliances has to be the Wine Climate Cupboard (wine cellar), space saving? Well of course, you can now use your fridge just for storing food and your wine is neatly organised!
You can see our full range of appliances here.
