Copper Is The New Black
Monochromatic kitchens are the main trend in kitchen colours, as discussed in the last 2 features, with homeowners opting for straightforward, neutral coloured kitchen designs that will stand the test of time. In 2018, shades of grey in cabinets and doors will continue to be in demand, alongside black and white, and we will also start to see more copper coloured handles, accessories and appliances coming through as people try to find alternatives to stainless steel and black to complement their cabinets.
About 5-6 years ago, the on-trend must-have accent metal for hardware and lighting in kitchens was brass and/or gold. Copper then started creeping onto the scene a couple of years ago as the metal of choice. The trend is now a definite. It got started off by mixing a few copper accents into the kitchen with other metals and now there has been a surge of copper offerings to challenge any other metal. Pendant lights, faucets, sinks, appliances, drawer handles or pulls…you name it…copper works. Here are a few examples of copper items for the kitchen and how they can be incorporated into a kitchen design:

It can be as simple as adding a grouping of copper pots, whether they’re hanging from a wall mounted rack over the range or from a pot rack over your kitchen island like in this beautifully designed kitchen:
If you want to go all out, you could add a copper range like an impressive appliance or you could stick with the range you have and simply display some lovely copper pots and other bakeware on open shelving. This stunning kitchen (above & below) is a great example of both:
